Relationship Intelligence
The understanding that only a relationship can produce.
Through an ongoing relationship, Hygia can develop a different kind of understanding. We call it Relationship Intelligence.
Relationship Intelligence can reveal the human context behind healthcare events, including understanding, intent, preferences, behavior, barriers and follow-through.
The questions it answers
Healthcare knows what happened. Relationship Intelligence helps explain why.
These are not questions that appear in a record. They are answered, if at all, by someone who has been in continuous contact with the person.
- What does the person actually understand about their care plan?
- What do they intend to do next?
- What are they worried about?
- What is getting in their way?
- Did they follow through?
- What has changed since last time?
- Who else is helping them?
- How do they prefer to be reached?
- When do they want a person instead?
Where it sits
A complement to the intelligence healthcare already has.
Relationship Intelligence does not compete with clinical or claims information. It explains the person navigating both.
Clinical Intelligence
Disease, diagnosis, treatment, laboratory results and medications. Authoritative about the body and the care delivered.
Claims Intelligence
Utilization, services, costs and what occurred inside the system. Authoritative about events and their financial shape.
Relationship Intelligence
Understanding, intent, preference, behavior, barrier and follow-through. Authoritative about the person living the journey.
The missing piece is usually not what should have happened. It is why it did not.
Why a relationship is required
This kind of understanding cannot be extracted. It has to be earned over time.
- 01
It depends on candour
People disclose cost concerns, side effects, fear and confusion to something that feels familiar and consistent. A one-off survey rarely earns that.
- 02
It depends on continuity
Intent stated in one conversation only becomes meaningful when a later conversation reveals whether it was acted on.
- 03
It depends on memory
Without persistent context, every interaction is a first interaction and no pattern can form.
- 04
It depends on the person staying in control
Understanding gathered without the individual's awareness or agency is not a relationship. It is surveillance, and it does not produce reliable context.
What it enables
Understanding is only valuable if it changes what happens next.
Explaining the gap
A care gap, an unfilled prescription or an incomplete referral becomes explainable rather than merely countable.
Prioritising human attention
The situations that warrant a nurse, pharmacist or coordinator can be identified rather than guessed at.
Better-prepared intervention
When a person is brought in, the relevant context is already assembled.
Earlier signal
A change in circumstance can surface in conversation before it surfaces as an event in a claim.
Continuity across organizations
What is learned can, where authorized, be useful to the plan, provider or pharmacy responsible for the same person.
Relevance over time
Each interaction makes the next one better informed rather than starting from zero.
Boundaries
What Relationship Intelligence is not.
Precision here is part of the claim, not a caveat attached to it.
- It is not a clinical assessment, a diagnosis or a substitute for professional judgment.
- It is not a risk score sold as an outcome, and it does not replace the analytics an organization already runs.
- It is not derived from covert observation. It comes from conversations the person is a knowing participant in.
- It is not a claim of proven results. It describes the kind of understanding a persistent relationship can produce.
How that understanding is governed, protected and made available is described in the Trust Center.
Relationship Intelligence is what the relationship is for.
It is the reason continuity matters, and the reason Hygia is building the layer that maintains it.
