How it works
A continuous relationship. A better understanding. A path to action.
Healthcare usually interacts with people at specific moments: an appointment, a prescription, a claim, a discharge or an outreach campaign. Hygia creates continuity between those moments.
Through Gia, Hygia can maintain an ongoing conversation with the patient, preserve relevant context over time, understand what is happening between traditional healthcare encounters and help translate that understanding into action.
The cycle
Connect → Engage → Understand → Act → Learn
Five steps, running continuously rather than once. Memory and persistent context operate across all of them.
- 1Connect
Hygia connects the patient to the organizations and people supporting their healthcare journey.
- 2Engage
Gia maintains an ongoing, natural conversation rather than relying solely on episodic outreach.
- 3Understand
Over time, those interactions can reveal what the person understands, intends to do, is worried about and what may be preventing them from moving forward.
- 4Act
Hygia can help translate that understanding into the appropriate next step, whether that means helping the patient, supporting follow-through, creating a task or bringing the right person into the loop.
- 5Learn
Each interaction adds context to the relationship, allowing future engagement to become more relevant and informed.
Across the entire cycle
Memory and persistent context — the relationship does not restart at each interaction.
Connect
The relationship is established through the organizations already responsible.
Hygia connects the patient to the organizations and people supporting their healthcare journey.
Hygia is not a direct-to-consumer product a patient discovers on their own. The relationship begins through a health plan, provider organization or pharmacy that already has a responsibility to the person.
That matters for two reasons. It means the relationship is legitimate from the first interaction, and it means what is learned can travel back to someone who can act on it.
Engage
Conversation, on the person's terms, over time.
Gia maintains an ongoing, natural conversation rather than relying solely on episodic outreach.
Gia engages in natural language rather than requiring the person to learn a portal, an app workflow or a menu tree. Engagement is not confined to a campaign window; it continues between them.
Adults remain in control. The person decides what to share, when to respond and whether to ask for a human instead.
Understand
What accumulates is context, not just transcript.
Over time, those interactions can reveal what the person understands, intends to do, is worried about and what may be preventing them from moving forward.
Across interactions, a picture can form of what the person understands, what they intend to do, what worries them, what is standing in the way and what has changed since the last conversation.
This is the material of Relationship Intelligence. It complements clinical and claims information rather than duplicating or replacing it.
Act
Understanding that does not lead anywhere is not useful.
Hygia can help translate that understanding into the appropriate next step, whether that means helping the patient, supporting follow-through, creating a task or bringing the right person into the loop.
Depending on what surfaces, the appropriate next step may be handled inside the relationship, may become a follow-up or task, may involve an authorized caregiver, or may require a nurse, pharmacist, care coordinator or physician.
Gia does not diagnose and does not make clinical decisions. When clinical judgment is required, a person makes it — with the relevant context already assembled rather than reconstructed from scratch.
Learn
The next conversation starts where the last one ended.
Each interaction adds context to the relationship, allowing future engagement to become more relevant and informed.
Each interaction adds to the relationship. Preferences carry forward. Barriers already identified do not have to be rediscovered. Outcomes of prior follow-through inform what is asked next.
This is the compounding property of a persistent relationship, and it is the reason the tenth interaction is more useful than the first.
Why continuity compounds
What happens on the second interaction, and the hundredth.
- 01
The first interaction
Gia introduces itself, explains what it is and is not, and the person decides how they want to engage. Little is assumed.
- 02
The second interaction
The conversation does not restart. What was discussed before is available, so the person is not re-explaining their situation.
- 03
The tenth interaction
Patterns become visible. A recurring barrier, a preference, a repeated point of confusion — the kind of thing a single encounter cannot reveal.
- 04
The hundredth interaction
The relationship itself has become the asset. It spans appointments, prescriptions, plan years and changes in circumstance, and it is still the same relationship.
Episodic outreach starts over every time. A relationship does not.
Boundaries
What this is not.
Being precise about the boundaries is part of being credible about the capability.
- Gia is not a physician and does not diagnose, treat or make clinical decisions.
- Hygia is not an emergency service. Emergencies go to 911 or the local emergency number.
- Hygia does not replace electronic health records, claims systems, care-management platforms or pharmacy systems.
- Hygia does not remove humans from care. It determines when human attention is warranted and prepares it.
Continuity is the capability.
Everything else Hygia does depends on the relationship still being there tomorrow.
